The Publishing House Maalehe Raamat was founded on April 23, 1994. Even before that, 40,000 copies of its first publication, Kitchen Calendar 1994 were sold. The very first book was “Koduapteek” (“Home Drugstore”) by a well-known pharmacist Kaljo Mandre.
Founded by Maaleht, one of the largest weeklies in Estonia, Maalehe Raamat specializes in reference and advice books on good housekeeping, family matters, health care, gardening, and cookery. Books of literary fiction and a variety of calendars are also published.
Maalehe Raamat publishes over 30 titles per year and is one of the leading publishers of gardening books in Estonia.
There are three different trademarks used by the publishing house: Maalehe Raamat for books by Estonian authors and gardening books adapted to Estonian circumstances; Viola for books on self-help, astrology and popular science books for younger readers; Estonian Greenfingers for Estonian books translated into foreign languages.
Books by Maalehe Raamat have frequently reached the top sellers lists and have won several prizes at book contests.
